A man was taken to a Pueblo hospital Saturday night after being trapped in a house fire in Colorado City.
The incident happened about 8 p.m. in the 6400 block of Waco Mish Drive.
Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor said an elderly woman managed to get out of the adobe-style home but the man, believed to be in his 20s, couldn't escape.
"We had a deputy and a fireman go in and the roof collapsed. So they backed out and they were able to get him on the second try," Taylor said.
The man was taken to St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center. He was in stable condition late Saturday and was being flown to a Denver hospital for treatment.
As a precaution, Taylor said the deputy was also taken to St. Mary-Corwin to be evaluated.
"He was pretty shook up," Taylor said of the deputy.
The woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
As for a cause: "I don't have anything other than accidental at this point," Taylor said. "We're not going to be able to get an arson investigator out here until (the fire) cools down."
