March 05--CORBIN -- Thousands of pounds of butter were destroyed in a tractor trailer fire along Interstate 75 in Williamsburg Friday, according to Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Steven A. Douglas.
The fire began about 5 a.m. when a tire blew out on a 2003 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Kurt McNammer, 49, of Mount Horeb, Wisc., and sparked the fire.
Douglas said the fire spread to the trailer, which contained the cargo -- several thousands of pounds of butter.
The right lane of I-75 near the 17 mile marker was closed while rescuers fought the fire and cleared debris from the road.
Officer Mike Hamblin responded to the reported fire and continues his investigation.
Others assisting at the scene were KSP CVE officers Sgt. Greg Reams, Dennis Jackson, Rob Mitchell, Goldbug Fire Department, Regional Emergency Management Director Jerry Rains, and Whitley County Emergency Management Director Danny Moses.
