March 07--Police were called after a motorist drove onto a fire hose while firefighters were battling a house fire in northeast Wichita on Tuesday night, authorities said.
The fire was reported in the 900 block of North Terrace at about 8:45 p.m., a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. Fire crews set up a block east, on Pershing near Murdock and Oliver, and a vehicle became stuck on a fire hose as it tried to drive through on Ninth Street even though the street was blocked.
A battalion chief told KFDI Radio at the scene that the car blocked water flow from the main hose, threatening the lives of firefighters battling the blaze. Police were called to the scene shortly after 9:35 p.m., about a half-hour after the fire was extinguished.
A cause and damage estimate for the fire have not been released.
