A volunteer firefighter with the Columbia County Fire Department was arrested Wednesday on a charge of using an agency fuel credit card to pay for more than $7,500 worth of gas for his personal vehicle and his friends’ vehicles, police said.

There were 181 fraudulent transactions on the fuel card, which was reported stolen from a fire department vehicle on Friday after a number of charges were made on the card, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Detectives viewed surveillance footage from gas stations and determined that the suspect was volunteer firefighter Austin Chad Kazmierski, 19, of Lake City.

Kazmierski was arrested on charges of grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card and was being held in lieu of $21,000 bond.
