A Vanceboro firefighter was pistol-whipped and robbed at gunpoint after backing a fire truck into a station Tuesday night.

Firefighter Nidal Tokhli told Craven County deputies that a man hit him over the head with a gun and fled after taking money from his pocket shortly after 9 p.m., according to WCTI-TV.

Tokhli was walking out of the station at 201 Oak Grove Road after backing in the apparatus and said that at least two other people were there when the incident occurred.

He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries.

Deputies are investigating the robbery and are currently search for any information that would lead to an arrest.
