EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine -- A fire broke out at a local cement factory Friday morning, and firefighters and workers at Lee's Redi Mix Concrete Inc. off Route 11 used a backhoe to tear apart what looked like an office building and garage to get at the blaze.

East Millinocket firefighters almost immediately called for backup from the Medway Fire Department, which responded. As of noon, most of the front of the two-story building was heavily damaged, if not destroyed, and firefighters were prying apart one side of the building to reach flames still evident.

No injuries had been reported.

According to town tax records, the business is owned by Emery Lee and Sons Inc., a construction company in Millinocket.
