March 19--Authorities say one man was seriously injured Monday morning when his arm was caught in a machine at a company not far from Charlotte's uptown and the Plaza Midwood area.

The entrapment was reported about 8:50 a.m. at the Barnhardt Manufacturing plant, in the 1100 block of Hawthorne Lane, according to Charlotte fire officials and Medic.

Charlotte fire Capt. Rob Brisley said it took a crew of 19 firefighters about 35 minutes to free the victim. Kristin Young, a spokeswoman for Medic, said the victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

NewsChannel 36, the Observer's news partner, says witnesses reported the man's arm was amputated as a result of the incident.
