La. St. Patrick's Day Parade Float Collapses, Two Hurt

A tire blow out caused a double-decker float to collapse with 35 people aboard. Two people were hurt including a woman with a head injury.

March 18--SLIDELL -- Around 1 p.m in Slidell, a parade float collapsed during their annual St. Patrick's Day parade.

It happened on the corner of Robert and Second streets. Slidell Firefighters and Slidell Police responded immediately to rescue the riders of the float.

Slidell's Deputy Fire Chief, Bill McInnis said a tire blow-out caused the double decker float to collapse.

35 riders were on the float and two were injured. A middle aged woman was taken to the hospital for head injuries. A man in his 20's suffered from a knee injury. Both are recovering in the hospital.

Deanna Dibianca witnessed the float collapse and said it was very scary.

"I think it was a freak thing that happened. I saw the outer wall, and on the other side everything collapsed," she said.
