N.C. Cop, Civilian Hurt Trying to Rescue Man From Fire

March 19--A fire trapped a man in his home Sunday night, according to a fire report issued Monday morning. A police officer and another resident were injured when they tried to rescue the man.
The fire was reported at 4125 Kincaid Drive in northeast Raleigh around 8:49 p.m. Sunday, according to the fire report.
Enroute to the call Raleigh/Wake 911 operators were on the phone with a male occupant who reported that he was trapped inside the burning house, according to the report.
Firefighters found the occupant unresponsive and in respiratory arrest in a bedroom. They removed the victim and began resuscitation efforts. The man was breathing on his own when he was airlifted to the UNC burn center in Chapel Hill.
A second male victim and a Raleigh police officer were transported to WakeMed for smoke inhalation. Both of these victims attempted to enter the burning home to rescue the trapped occupant before the fire department arrived.
The identity of the victims has not yet been released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
