March 20--OREGON CITY -- Emergency dispatchers had to "ping" a cell phone to find the location of a man who called 9-1-1 after crashing his car in a ditch early today south of Oregon City.

Firefighters then raced to the scene, along South Central Point Road, between New Era and Geiger roads, shortly after 3:30 a.m. and freed the man from the tangled wreckage of his car.

Steve McAdoo, Clackamas Fire District 1 spokesman, said the man didn't know where he was and couldn't escape the car on his own.

"He was trapped inside the car due to how it landed in the ditch," McAdoo said. "We had to cut off the top of the car to get him out safely. He was barely responsive."

The man, whose name and condition are not available, was taken by ambulance to OHSU Hospital.
