A Garland firefighter fractured his skull after a freak accident involving an SCBA tank on Saturday.
Firefighter Bobby Brinkley was struck in face by the tank while attempting to rescue a dog trapped in a creek, according to KDFW-TV.
The two-year veteran was transported by helicopter to Parkland Hospital where he remains in intensive care.
Members of the department's Swift Water Rescue team were called from Station 8 to Rowlett Creek Preserve to rescue a dog.
Crewmembers were filling a raft with the SCBA tank when it became disengaged, sending it in Brinkley's direction.
His colleagues continued the rescue and brought the dog to safety once he was being tended to.
Dozens of firefighters showed up at the hospital to show support in his recovery.
