March 26--ROCHESTER -- Fire crews from four communities were saved a garage on Rochester Hill Road from being completely destroyed by a two-alarm fire Sunday morning.
According to Cpt. Mark Avery, emergency personnel from the Lilac City were dispatched just after 1 a.m. Sunday morning to an estate on 169 Rochester Hill Rd. after a neighbor living on Continental Drive reported a garage unit on the backside of the property was on fire.
Avery said upon arriving on scene, those residing in the house on the front of the property were not aware of the blaze until fire engines showed up. Everyone was removed from the building safely and no injuries were sustained.
Though the cause of the fire was still under investigation as of Sunday afternoon, Avery said it appears it started as an outside fire that traveled to the garage unit and set it ablaze.
With the help of fire crews from nearby Somersworth, Dover, and Durham, the fire was brought under control by 2:45 a.m.
"It was actually a pretty good save," said Avery, noting though the back of the garage unit had sustained significant damage, the structure of the building itself had survived.
Station coverage during the incident was provided by Berwick and Lebanon, Maine, Milton, Farmington, and Barrington.
