March 27--No injuries were reported Tuesday morning when a two-alarm fire damaged several units of a north Charlotte apartment building.

The fire was reported shortly after 10 a.m. at the Elgywood Lane Apartments, in the 6300 block of Elgywood Lane. That is in a community off North Tryon Street south of the I-85 connector.

Charlotte fire Capt. Mark Basnight said crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the building when they arrived. A second alarm was sounded a short time later.

TV video from the scene showed flames coming from the roof of at least two second-floor units. Smoke also was pouring from a ground-floor unit. There is no initial word as to a cause of the blaze, but investigators remained on the scene at midday.

The American Red Cross said it is helping residents who were displaced by the blaze.
