Often hailed for its preeminence as the “Pulitzer Prize of the business media,” ABM's Neal Awards recognize and reward editorial excellence in business media.

Paying tribute to the Neal Award winners, ABM President & CEO Clark Pettit said, “We are so proud to honor these journalists and editors. Their deep expertise, ability to push progress across existing and new media channels, and successful track records of informing the industry in important issues place them at the forefront of their fields.”

The Awards ceremony was hosted by Erin Moriarity and Rebecca Jarvis of CBS News, who announced that “the judges recognized that 9/11 was an important anniversary for firefighters, and Firehouse looked both back and forward by a book, events, trends, and web-based commemoration. This was of meritorious service to this b-to-b community.”

Firehouse's integrated coverage of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 included a 276-page book, “WTC: In Their Own Words,” featuring exclusive photos and interviews with firefighters who responded to the World Trade Center attack; in-depth coverage in the September 2011 issue; special educational programming and a fire service tribute to 9/11 responders at Firehouse Expo, and original reporting on Firehouse.com from Shanksville, PA and New York City.

“What an incredible honor to be recognized by ABM and our peers,” says Patricia Maroder, Publisher, Firehouse®.  “The Firehouse team worked extremely hard in pulling together an enormous amount of content, and to produce the content in a variety of platforms. The team also found the right balance of content --  by honoring those we lost, recognizing those who assisted in the recovery and rebuilding efforts, and capturing the sentiments of the fire service and our nation at large ten years later.”

Firehouse was also nominated as one of four finalists for the coveted Grand Neal Award. The Grand Neal finalists are selected from the 54 Neal Award-winning entries.
