April 02--GREENSBORO -- Scott Robbins was doing yard work Friday morning when he saw a driver pull up to a stop sign.

William Spence's van rolled into a power pole at Dellwood Drive and West Cornwallis Avenue after he suffered a heart attack shortly before 11 a.m. The pool maintenance and insulation worker was slumped behind the wheel.

Robbins, a Greensboro firefighter, administered CPR, a move Spence's family credits with saving his life. Emergency medical crews arrived in four minutes and took Spence to Moses Cone Hospital.

Megan Spence, his daughter, said he's doing well. He's expected to be home for his 60th birthday, which is Friday.

"They put a stent in his heart but he's up and walking," she said. "He's doing fine."
