An Orange County Fire Authority battalion chief was hospitalized Wednesday morning after his department SUV collided with another while he was responding to an earlier crash.

The unidentified battalion chief was initially taken to UC Irvine Medical Center as a trauma patient, but fire officials said he only sustained "minor scrapes and bruises" and was expected to be released later in the day, according to The Orange County Register.
