Pennsylvania Woman Dies in Apartment Fire

April 10--A woman died in an apartment fire early this morning in McKees Rocks.

Firefighters responded to a nine-unit building in the 1200 block of Church Avenue after a call came in at about 3:30, McKees Rocks fire chief Nick Radoycis said.

Six residents evacuated before fire crews arrived, he said. Don Cinkan, a retired McKees Rocks firefighter who lived in the building, kicked in the door of a basement apartment but could not enter due to heavy fire and smoke, Radoycis said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire in that apartment, Radoycis said, and the woman's body was found inside. She has not yet been identified.

The fire remains under investigation.
