Fire damages two buildings
It took firefighters about an hour to put out a blaze that started at the rear of 103 E. Main St., Hummelstown, Wednesday morning.
Hummelstown Fire Chief Charles Cogan said the fire started around 7:20 a.m. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, ignited by careless smoking and fueled by wind and grass, he said.
The fire engulfed two buildings that included two second-floor apartments and Palermo's pizza shop in one and a first-floor and a second-floor apartment in the second building.
Cogan said a woman and her dog were trapped in their second-floor apartment, but firefighters rescued her. He said there were no major injuries, but one firefighter wrenched his back.
Cogan said he did not have an estimate of the damage Wednesday afternoon.
