A former fire chief and the town of Harrison have been ordered to pay a woman $825,000 in a crash involving a fire department SUV.
The jury ruled in the case on Friday in which Sandra Fugazi was seeking damages stemming from the collision that occurred on June 21, 2007 as Fire Chief Henry Mohr was responding to a nearby crash, according to The Journal News.
Mohr was driving the SUV north on Harrison Avenue around 60 mph that morning en route to a crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
He passed another firefighter's vehicle that was ahead of him, then pulled into oncoming lanes of traffic and drove through a red light into an intersection.
Fugazi had a green light and was going between 20 and 30 mph when the collision occurred, according to the newspaper.
Shortly before the crash, Mohr could be heard over the radio chiding the firefighter he passed for going too slow.
Fugazi's lawyer claimed that she suffered injuries to her neck and has had difficulty sleeping since the crash.
Mohr was not seriously injured in the incident.
The town has 30 days to file motions for an appeal in the case.
