The final Philadelphia firefighter who was still hospitalized after suffering injuries in a fire that killed two of his colleagues on April 9 went home Tuesday.
Firefighter Patrick Nally was greeted by friends, family and fellow firefighters as he was carried out of an ambulance on a stretcher outside his parent's house, according to WPVI-TV.
"(It) makes me realize what a huge family I really have and it makes me feel awesome," he told the news station. "I want to thank everybody from the bottom of my heart."
Nally and Firefighter Fances Cheney were both injured after a wall of a furniture store that was ignited by a five-alarm fire at an adjacent warehouse collapsed on them.
Cheney was treated and released the same day of the blaze
Lt. Robert Neary and Firefighter Daniel Sweeney were with them and died in the tragic incident that morning.
Before coming home, Nally requested to stop by his firehouse -- Engine 7, Ladder 10.
"I miss by brothers," he said. "I was happy to go down and see what a great job everybody did with all the flowers and the stuff. It made me feel happy."
For Nally, seeing the large memorial outside the station honoring his fallen colleagues was difficult.
"Very tough," he said. "It got me all worked up."
The cause of the fire has not been determined and a grand jury is investigating the blaze.
