Firefighters at a Jersey City firehouse saved the life of a baby who was brought there after he stopped breathing Sunday night.
Nicole Gohde was driving home with her son, Gabriel Dugan, and her aunt, Kimberly Gohde, from a party celebrating the 2-month-old boy's baptism when he stopped breathing and started to turn blue, according to The Jersey Journal.
The mother pulled up to Engine 14, Ladder 7 around 9:57 p.m. and began franticly banging on the door.
The door was answered by Firefighter Sean O'Connor, who also is a certified EMT, immediately began performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the baby.
He carried the baby to the station's kitchen, where his colleagues assisted him.
The boy was given oxygen and within a minute, he was gasping for air.
Several minutes after that, he began crying.
He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center and was later transferred to the pediatric critical care unit at Beth Israel in Newark.
