STILLWATER, N.Y. -- A 43-year-old former volunteer firefighter faces felony grand larceny charges for allegedly stealing a credit card from the Stillwater Village Fire Department, police said.

Christopher A. Cancilla of Schenectady was charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny for taking the fire department's credit card and using it repeatedly to buy fuel for his and his family's vehicles, according to Stillwater police.

Cancilla made more than $1,500 in unauthorized charges, police said Tuesday in a statement. Mayor Ernest Martin Sr. alerted police to the charges. Police said they determined Cancilla stole the department's credit card several months ago. He acted alone, police said.

Cancilla was arraigned in Town Court and sent to county jail on $20,000 bail, according to police.
