April 28--EVERETT -- One man died as a fire destroyed an Everett duplex early Sunday morning. Fire crews were dispatched at approximately 3:30 a.m. and found the structure "heavily involved in smoke and flames," said Everett Fire Marshal Rick Robinson.
When crews arrived on the scene, they located a resident in a bedroom as they searched the structure. They moved him outside and performed CPR but were unable to revive him.
The four people living in the other residence in the duplex evacuated the home after a passerby who noticed the fire pounded on their door. Nobody from that side of the duplex was injured. The passerby also called 911. He said that when he knocked on the south side residence's door and window, he got no response.
Crews were able to contain the fire by 3:50 a.m.. Damage is estimated at $300,000. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
