April 28--MORIAH CENTER -- More than 60 firefighters are fighting the flames of a large residence fire on Ensign Road.
The fire began at 4 a.m. Saturday in the center of a large two-story wooden home that used to be a large convenience store, said Moriah Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Bill Trybendis by phone.
Trybendis and other crew members had stopped at Moriah Fire Department's station around 10:45 a.m. to gather more equipment.
He said then the home is a total loss.
Owner David Blackenberry was home when the fire began but wasn't injured, Trybendis said.
Moriah, Port Henry, and Mineville-Witherbee fire departments were at the scene, along with a Westport Fire Department air truck.
Elizabethtown Fire Department remained on standby at Mineville Fire Department's station while Crown Point did so at the Port Henry firehouse.
Trybendis said the flames were 60 to 80 feet high when crews arrived.
More information will be added to this story as it becomes available.
