April 28--Arson investigators were working the scene of a suspicious house fire that injured a firefighter this morning near Jackman and West Alexis roads in West Toledo, authorities said.
The firefighter, whose name was not released, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with what appeared to be minor injuries, Toledo fire Lt. Tom Kuhman said. The victim had second-degree burns to the leg, according to initial reports from the scene.
No one was home when fire crews arrived about 8:19 a.m. and saw flames coming from a bedroom in the back of a single-story brick house at 5818 Livingston Dr. Firefighters attacked the blaze and largely extinguished it by 8:24 a.m., about which time they rescued a "pit bull" puppy. The dog, which was brought out in a cage, was unhurt, Lieutenant Kuhman said.
As of 9:30 a.m. firefighters remained on the scene, making sure hot spots didn't rekindle.
The Lucas County auditor's Web site lists Rock Bottom Real Estate, LLC of Maumee as the owner of the 1964-built single-family house, which last sold for $21,650 in May, 2011.
