Portland firefighters rescued five cats and two dogs from an apartment fire Monday morning.
Crews responded to the Trails Ends Apartments at 11860 SE Powell Boulevard shortly before 9:30 a.m. and found a large amount of fire coming from the back of the building, according to a department news release.
Engine 7 was the first to arrive and immediately pulled a hose line and went up to the third floor.
Additional lines were deployed and crews aggressively attacked the fire on both the second and third floors.
Firefighters from Truck 7 ventilated the roof, improving conditions for the crews inside.
During the search for occupants, firefighters found the animals inside several units and returned them to their owners.
All of the residents had escaped in time and there were no injuries reported.
The flames were under control by 10:32 a.m. and crews remained on the scene to extinguish hot spots.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
