A Macon-Bibb County firefighter was injured Tuesday while fighting a suspicious fire at an abandoned house in the 3800 block of Mathis Street.

Lt. Kevin Watson suffered heat exhaustion and was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia. He was treated and released, said Chief Marvin Riggins.

Riggins said the fire did not appear to be accidental, but remains under investigation.

The blaze started in a front bedroom sometime between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Firefighters found a "possible trail of an unknown substance," according to a Macon police report released Wednesday.

Copper pipes had been removed from the house, according to the report.
