Chicago firefighters rescued a quadriplegic man from a fire that broke out this afternoon at a South Side building in the city's Burnside neighborhood.

The small mattress fire broke out shortly after 12:05 p.m. at a 2-story brick building on the 9100 block of South Ellis Avenue, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Joe Roccasalva.

Firefighters rescued a quadriplegic man who was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital as a precaution, Roccasalva said. Officials described the man as in his late 50s.

The fire was confined to one room, Roccasalva said.
