The tanker was heading down the mountain when the driver lost control on a curve and overturned.

A mountain roadway near Santa Paula was closed this morning after a fuel tanker crashed and overturned, spilling about 200 gallons of gas onto the shoulder, officials said.

The crash was reported just before 8 a.m. on South Mountain Road near Willard Canyon, Ventura County Fire Department officials said.

The tanker was heading down the mountain when the driver lost control on a curve and overturned, said Steve Swindle, a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department. Both of the big rig's fuel tanks were leaking after the crash, Swindle said. No injuries were reported.

A hazardous materials crew was called to the scene, and the road was closed in both directions, Swindle said. Officials stopped one leak, and they were working to stop the second leak this morning, he said.

A dump truck full of sand brought in by the city of Fillmore helped authorities contain the fuel spill, Swindle said.

Firefighters were standing by as a precaution, he said.
