An on-duty New Haven firefighter was called Thursday to help put out a blaze at his own home, authorities said.
The New Haven-Adams Township Fire Department was dispatched at about 2:15 a.m. to a fire in the Meadowbrook subdivision. Firefighters found the house heavily engulfed in flames, a news release said.
One of the first firefighters to arrive was also the owner of the home, the news release said. After checking to make sure his wife and four children had gotten safely out of the house, he rejoined his crew and helped extinguish the fire, the news release said.
The fire was contained to the home's rear area and attic, but the rear portion had heavy fire damage, the news release said. No injuries were reported, and the fire was brought under control in 30 minutes, the news release said.
The Woodburn Fire Department assisted at the scene, the news release said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
Monetary donations can be taken to any Fire Police City County Federal Credit union and deposited in an account set up for the family, the news release said. Other items can be dropped at the New Haven-Adams Township Fire Department, 910, Hartzell Road.
