Two Fair Bluff firefighters are recovering following a tanker truck rollover on May 12.
Capt. Jerry Meares and Firefighter Ashleigh Wilson were responding to a 180-acre wildfire off of West Perry Road in Horry County when the truck's tire blew out, causing the apparatus to roll over several times, according to WPDE-TV.
Even though he was wearing his seat belt, Wilson was ejected from the truck and was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital and was set to undergo surgery Tuesday for head trauma sustained in the crash.
Meares was trapped under the truck for close to 35 minutes and underwent his second surgery for his shoulder on Monday at Grand Strand and still has several surgeries in line for shoulder and neck fractures.
Fair Bluff Fire and Rescue is accepting donations to help the firefighters and their families.
