May 26--Between 20 and 25 people were displaced when two 3-story apartment buildings burned down in Maywood Friday night.

The 3-11 alarm fire on the 1000 block of 11th Avenue brought firefighters from a dozen surrounding communities as crews battled flames for about two hours, Maywood Fire Chief John Cadigan said.

The first alarm was sounded about 9:30 p.m. Investigators remained on the scene after midnight Saturday morning, Cadigan said. It was too early to say what caused the fire.

Most of the people were able to get out on their own but firefighers rescued "a couple people," Cadigan said. No firefighters were injured.

The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago is assisting displaced residents, Cadigan said.

Both buildings were three-flats and neither are habitable, Cadigan said.
