Neighbors Rescue California Man From House Fire

A Guerneville man who was rescued from his burning home Monday evening by two neighbors suffered second-degree burns and severe smoke inhalation and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in critical condition, officials said.
The man's name was unavailable Monday night. He appeared to be in his 60s or 70s, said Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman.
The 6:20 p.m. fire appeared to have started in a bedroom of the granny unit in the 17000 block of Orchard Avenue, Baxman said.
Two neighbors, a man and a woman, pulled the man from the house after finding him face down in the living room, he said
The man was unconscious with burns to his upper torso, Baxman said.
The neighbors were treated on scene for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters from Monte Rio, Guerneville, Forestville and Cal Fire responded, knocking down the fire within minutes. Flames caused extensive heat and smoke damage but did not affect other structures, Baxman said.
