INDIANAPOLIS -- One man was killed and another was injured in a shooting outside an Indianapolis Fire Department fire station late Saturday night.
The shooting happened just before midnight at 30th Street and Capitol Avenue, across the street from IFD Station No. 14, Indianapolis police said.
Tavein Brashear, 21, and Jarrett Hall, 19, were found shot. Brashear was pronounced dead at the scene, and Hall was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was listed in good condition.
"Firefighters ... heard shots fired and came out of the station to find two people shot," said Indianapolis police spokesman Kendale Adams. "IFD Station 14 received damage from bullets striking the building. No one inside the station was hurt."
"There were no firefighters injured, and they all were very fortunate, because where the bullets entered the station, if there had been firefighters in those areas, it is likely there would have been firefighter injuries, or possibly even a firefighter death," said Indianapolis fire Lt. Larry Tracy.
Police said they believe Brashear and Hall were walking eastbound on 30th Street when shots were fired from a dark-colored vehicle.
Police asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
