S.C. Man Accused of Torching Pants to Burn Trailer
July 07--A Bluffton man was charged with arson Friday night after he used a pair of pants to burn a mobile home on Little Possum Lane, police reported.
Willie Lee Fields, 50, hung a pair of pants from the end of a stick, lit them and then used them to ignite the mobile home, Bluffton Police Department spokesman Sgt. Joe Babkiewicz said.
No one was injured.
Fields, who lived in a nearby mobile home, had just ended an argument with two tenants living in the home that burned, Babkiewicz said.
The Bluffton Township Fire District responded at about 4 p.m. and had the blaze under control within 30 minutes, according to district spokesman Randy Hunter. The mobile home was destroyed, Hunter said.
Fields was charged with felony third-degree arson. His bond hearing is today, Babkiewicz said.
Volunteers from the Red Cross were at the scene just after 5 p.m. to aid the victims.
