Several people were treated for burn injuries by the San Jose Fire Department after participating in a firewalk Thursday night at a Tony Robbins event in downtown, according to a fire captain.

San Jose fire Capt. Anthony Melendrez did not have an exact number of people treated for burn injuries but said there were "quite a few people" who walked across the coals of the fire.

"Several people had called for help because of burns to the feet," Melendrez said.

Tony Robbins is hosting an event at the San Jose Convention Center called Unleash the Power Within, according to his Website. There he promotes "The Firewalk Experience," a process where people walk across coals between 1,200 and 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Firefighters responded to a couple of hotels downtown to people who "had some pain and called for help."
