Five Hurt in Crash Involving Baltimore FD Ambulance

Five people, including one member of the Baltimore Fire Department, were injured in an accident involving a city ambulance Sunday evening, according to the fire department.

Sometime before 7 p.m., the fire department's Medic 7 ambulance unit was responding to a call for a "man down" somewhere along Calvert Street or Saratoga Street, said Chief Kevin Cartwright, a department spokesman.

At the intersection of North Calvert and East Lexington streets, the ambulance collided with a vehicle, Cartwright said.

Cartwright said four people, whom he believed were all in the car, were taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A member of the fire department in the ambulance, either a paramedic or a firefighter, was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, also with non-life-threatening injuries, Cartwright said.

The fire department's safety officer is investigating the cause of the accident, Cartwright said.
