Man Injured After Slamming Into Back of Fla. Apparatus

MOSSY HEAD, Fla. -- A 64-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after he crashed into the back of a fire truck on Interstate 10 Thursday afternoon.
The fire truck was heading slowly east partially n the emergency lane and the left lane with its emergency lights activated near Mossy Head about 1:40 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Firefighters were looking for a reported traffic crash.
James W. Martin was approaching slowed traffic in the left lane. He quickly changed into the right lane, passed the traffic and then veered back into the left lane and crashed into the read of the fire truck, the FHP reported.
His Ford utility truck was totaled, according to the release. He was not wearing a seat belt.
He was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola in serious condition, the FHP said.
The firetruck sustained $10,000 in damage.
Charges were pending further investigation.
