There was an explosion at a Brentwood house Tuesday morning that resulted in multiple injuries.

A house in Brentwood exploded Tuesday, according to neighbors and Suffolk County police.

A police spokeswoman said there was an explosion reported at 11:55 a.m. at 12 Prospect Dr. with multiple injuries. She did not have additional details.

Neighbors who live on the block south of the Brentwood Country Club and west of Eastern Avenue reported hearing a loud, booming sound and seeing a piece of the house flying through the air shortly before noon.

Joanne Collins, 60, who lives on Prospect Drive, said, "I heard a big boom. The whole house shook. The car horns were going off on the street."

A police officer blocking off Prospect said residents were being evacuated from the area. A spokeswoman for National Grid, a natural gas provider, said the explosion was not related to its gas supply.

Veronica Orellana, 24, who also lives on Prospect, said she was outside her home with her three daughters, ages 6, 4 and 2, when she heard the explosion.

"I heard a big boom, and I saw pieces of the house flying up in the air," she said.

She said there were adults and an infant in the house who were taken away by ambulance, but there was no official confirmation of persons being taken to hospital.

News 12 showed aerial photos of a leveled home on Prospect Drive in Brentwood, with firefighters searching through debris.

The station also had an aerial photo of at least one person being loaded into an ambulance.
