Va. Firefighters Rescue Couple From House Fire

Firefighters rescued a husband and wife from a burning house in Suffolk on Saturday morning

Aug. 18--SUFFOLK -- Firefighters rescued a husband and wife from a burning house this morning.

When crews arrived in the 400 block of Wilson Street around 4:30 a.m. they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the home, according to a city news release.

Firefighters knocking down flames inside the home found a husband and wife in a downstairs bedroom.

Authorities helped the couple, as well as a dog chained to the porch, get out safely.

The home, located near downtown, sustained serious damage.

No firefighters were injured in the blaze. The couple pulled from the house declined medical treatment at the scene. The Suffolk Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping the family.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
