Aug. 18--CAMERON, Mo -- Three people were confirmed dead following a Friday evening house fire.

A multitude of law enforcement officials and fire departments crowded the front of the house, at 113 E. Fourth St., where the fire occurred.

According to Patrolman Heath Henry, a public information officer for the Cameron Police Department, officers arrived at the house about 4:41 p.m.

"Upon arrival, Cameron police officers entered the residence, which contained a smoke-like odor. Officers located three deceased victims within the residence," he said.

Police would not name the victims or release any information concerning the circumstances of the fire.

From the outside, the house did not appear to have any exterior damage in the front, while the backyard was sectioned off with police caution tape and obscured by a fence and several firefighters.

Dr. John Dorsch, a man who has been renovating the old Cameron Post Office across the street from the residence, said he didn't hear a noise or see any fire by the time police arrived at the house.

"We noticed police rolling up and people responding fast, so we walked out and could smell smoke," he said.

Shortly after officials arrived at the scene, it appeared they had declared the fire as inactive.

"(I) noticed not very much action coming from the department. Things were pretty well over with whatever happened," Mr. Dorsch said.

More information is to be released today, as the Cameron Police Department will hold a news conference at 10 a.m.

Departments that worked the case included: Cameron Emergency Medical Service, Cameron Police and Fire Departments, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Clinton County Coroner's Office, Missouri State Fire Marshall's Office and the Clinton County Sheriff's Office.
