HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Firefighters on duty at one of the city's busiest stations discovered all their vehicles broken into Wednesday morning, crimes that may have occurred while they were answering an emergency call.

Sometime overnight, a thief or thieves smashed into five private vehicles belonging to firefighters at Station 45, located at the 1800 block of North 64th Avenue. The vehicles were parked behind the station that has no exterior security cameras.

Items belonging to firefighters were taken from the vehicles, said Hollywood Fire Rescue Division Chief Eric Busenbarrick.

The burglaries were discovered about 7 a.m. Wednesday by a fire rescue employee who was going on duty. Firefighters suspect that the vehicles were broken into during one of several overnight rescue calls.

Investigators spent Wednesday morning dusting for fingerprints while firefighters vacuumed up the shattered glass from multiple vehicles.

Officials ask that anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477.
