Fire crews were close to containing a brush fire near Piru that began Sunday morning, fire officials said.

Ventura County firefighters responded to the blaze about 8:52 a.m. near Highway 126 and East La Falda Way.

About 4 p.m., the fire was reported as 95 percent contained at 88 acres and spreading slowly in light brush, officials said.

The brush was burning on steep terrain in the hills, said Steve Swindle, spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department. Firefighters were flown to the blaze.

Transmission lines were near the area of the fire but none was reported damaged. Southern California Edison responded to investigate the lines.

"There's absolutely nothing threatened here," Swindle said. "It's just one of those fires that's a lot of hard work."

Crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Santa Paula Fire Department and Forest Service assisted with the fire.

A Ventura County bulldozer, two helicopters, four hand crews and 10 engines responded, Swindle said.

The helicopters used water from a private reservoir at a farm to drop on the fire. An air tanker also dropped retardant on the blaze, Swindle said.

Fire crews were expected to stay all Sunday night at the scene due to weather conditions to make sure the fire did not restart, officials said.

A firefighter suffered unknown injuries, Swindle said.

Traffic on Highway 126 was not affected, Swindle said.
