A Rockwell Rural firefighter was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after being ejected from his SUV while responding to a wreck.
North Carolina troopers say Josh Jacobs, 30, was driving a Ford Explorer when the tire tread came apart, causing him to lose control, according to The Salisbury Post.
Jacobs apparently tried to maintain control of the vehicle but it veered off the road and overturned. He was ejected, and landed in a nearby yard.
He was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center and then flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, the paper reported
Troopers said there were skid marks indicating his effort to gain control as the tread on the left rear tire began to separate.
