Sept. 30--An early-morning fire in St. Paul left two firefighters injured and a home destroyed.
Reports of a fire on the 600 block of Case Avenue came in about 5:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard said.
When crews arrived, "fire was coming out of every opening" of the two-story duplex, Zaccard said. The fire then spread to a neighboring house, forcing crews to fight fires in two houses at once.
Residents in the house where the fire started evacuated before crews arrived, and firefighters woke the lone occupant of the second house, Zaccard said. The American Red Cross was called to assist in housing those displaced.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital with a hand laceration. Paramedics checked another, who suffered a head wound from falling debris, at the scene, Zaccard said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
