WAPATO, Wash. -- A building sprinkler system quickly extinguished a fire at a fiberglass component manufacturing plant here Tuesday morning.

About 9, firefighters were called to Amtech Corporation at 180 E. Jones Road and saw smoke coming from the 130,000-sqaure-foot plant, but the fire was already extinguished by the building's sprinkler system, according to a Yakima County Fire District 5 news release.

The fire began in a room where fiberglass and resin are sprayed into molds, the release said.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been spontaneous combustion from a buildup of fiberglass and resin in a spray booth, the release said.

Five workers were treated at the scene for slight smoke inhalation, and building damage was estimated at $55,000, the release said.
