A former Kentucky fire chief was sent to jail and ordered to pay nearly $200,000 in restitution as part of a plea deal on embezzlement charges.
Former McMahan Fire Chief Paul Barth has been sentenced to three and a half years and must pay $198,000 in restitution, according to WAVE.
Barth admitted to taking money from a charity to help children as well as the fire department.
He was indicted in April 2010 on 16 counts of fraud and money laundering following a Secret Service probe. Agents said they believe he laundered and embezzled more than $300,000, the station reported.
Officials said Barth charged more than $40,000 in personal expenses on the fire district's credit card, including $10,000 for property taxes on his fleet of collector convertibles. Agent Paul Johnson told reporters the former chief also took personal trips and used the department credit card to pay for the bills.
