Nov. 26--Firefighters today freed two horses that became stuck in the mud off South Hattan Road, in the Redland area northeast of Oregon City.

A veterinarian is evaluating the horses for injuries.

"So far, we haven't heard of any serious problems," said Brandon Paxton, Clackamas Fire District 1 spokesman.

However, Paxton said, one of the horses, 30-year-old "Dillon," is very tired and is getting special attention.

He said he did not know how long the horses struggled against the 2-foot-deep mud.

Firefighters were called at 8:58 a.m. to the 16200 block of South Hattan Road and sent two fire engines and crews to wrestle the horses from the mud.
