LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — A fire broke out just before 3 a.m. destroying homes and causing over 300 evacuations near the Red Feather Lakes community in Larimer County.
Evacuation notices went out to 367 residents in the area after reports of “multiple structure fires,” according to Larimer County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson John Schulz. Those notices were lifted shortly after 4 a.m. when the containment of the fire was aided by snow in the area.
Schulz confirmed that two summer cabins were destroyed by the blaze, which was aided by wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour. A large propane tank also exploded and damaged a building owned by the Red Feather Lakes Property Owners Association across the street.
There were no injuries to report and the cause of the fire was still under investigation Monday afternoon, Schulz said.
The Red Feather Village, Fox Acres neighborhood and residents between County Road 67J and County Road 74E were evacuated. An evacuation center was set up for those individuals at Livermore Elementary School but was no longer necessary after those evacuations were lifted.
Some power lines also went down as crews fought the fire, but authorities confirmed that power returned to the Fox Acres neighborhood as of 5:20 a.m.
