Dec. 05--Three people are dead as a result of a house fire on Buckingham Lane in south Lexington, Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said Wednesday.
Ginn said the victims, two men and one woman who were all disabled to some extent, appear to be occupants of the home.
"We're still kind of putting all that together," Ginn said. "We're still trying to determine whether we're going to order autopsies or not. We'll be looking at all that once we're able to examine everyone a little bit closer."
Maj. John Gosper of the Lexington Fire Department said the fire was reported sometime between 5:15 and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"When we pulled up, the whole front of the house was on fire," Gosper said.
The light brick house with green shutters and a chimney had two front windows broken out where firefighters had tried to get inside. A portion of Buckingham in front of the house was cordoned off with yellow tape.
A Kentucky State Police arson investigator was on the scene, as is often the case in fatal fires, but Gosper said Lexington police will conduct the investigation. A Lexington Fire Department K-9 unit was also on the scene Wednesday morning.
Ginn said he would not release the victims' names until steps could be taken to make a positive identification.
